Sleep Sense Review Summary
This is a fairly good, middle-of-the-road sleep supplement. It is a good option for someone looking for help falling asleep faster and improving sleep quality without feeling sedated. It provides a hefty dose of theanine, and a good serving of melatonin. There’s also a very generous serving of magnesium here.
However, Sleep Sense doesn’t really provide very good value for money, especially not in comparison to other stacks on the market right now. It contains ingredients that confer NO added value to you. They don’t contribute to better quality sleep. Things like GABA are a complete waste of time.
Where To Buy Sleep Sense
Sleep Sense is sold primarily through Amazon. They do have an independent (one page) website, but it just links back to the Amazon page!
Detailed SennaBliss Sleep Sense Review
SennaBliss Sleep Sense is a relatively new sleeping supplement. It seems to be extremely popular right now due to its visibility on Amazon. It has a large (and growing) number of user reviews, and they are overwhelmingly popular.
So what is this new sleep aid supposed to do exactly?
Is the popularity justified?
SennaBliss are not a major manufacturing outfit. If you head over to their independent website, you’ll see that it is pretty much just a single-page website with some company information and a quick paragraph on Sleep Sense.
Hardly the work of a serious player on the scene, but they might just be waiting until they gain some traction before they invest in marketing.
According to the SennaBliss website and the merchant page, Sleep Sense provides some key benefits to all users:
- Promotes jet lag recovery
- Induces ‘sleep mode’ naturally
- ‘Eases your mind’
Very interesting! We can’t think of a single stack that explicitly tries to help with jet lag. That’s a really novel angle and it makes perfect sense – a natural sleep aid can help you get back in sync with your circadian rhythm. Falling out of sync with your natural sleep cycle is the cause of jet lag; or rather, it IS jet lag.
So many business people fly long haul now that jet lag recovery will be a major selling point of any supplement.
So it will be very interesting to see if Sleep Sense can deliver on this front.
Most interesting of all, however, is the following paragraph which you can find on the SennaBliss site: “Our formula is crafted in such a way that after taking it for a while you will no longer need any sort of supplement to sleep, it builds up and restores all of the lost nutrients due to stress and age”.
So according to SennaBliss, you only need to take Sleep Sense for a while and then you will never need a sleeping supplement again.
Not the best business move, but that would be amazing for us, the consumers!
The only problem is that we aren’t really aware of any mechanism where that is possible. If you naturally lose these nutrients over time, then you will need a supplement again if nothing else changes.
But enough of that.
Let’s find out how much of this is true and how much of it is just sales spiel!
Does Sleep Sense really work as advertised?
Does it represent good value for money?
How does it compare to other stacks on the market right now?
In our detailed Sleep Sense review below, you will find answers to these questions and more. If you have any questions, please post them in the comments section below. Also, please feel free to share any experiences you might have had with this natural sleep aid.
SennaBliss Sleep Sense Formula
Here is the SennaBliss Sleep Sense formula:
Overall, a pretty good formula.
We can see some really great ingredients in there.
The doses are pretty good too.
However, we also see a lot of dead weight. Some of these ingredients will do absolutely NOTHING for your ability to sleep peacefully, or to fall asleep on time.
All things considered, this stack will work well for a lot of people. But value for money could be a lot better, and it is missing some obvious ingredients.
- Good mix of ingredients
- Very generous serving sizes
While we think this stack provides pretty poor value for money, we can’t say that ti won’t work well for many users.
Sleep Sense contains some proven, potent sleep enhancers, and they are dosed very well.
For example, each serving gives us 400mg of theanine.
Theanine is an amino acid found in very high concentrations in tea leaves. People have known that theanine makes you feel relaxed and calm for centuries. Modern science is now backing up these claims with hard empirical evidence.
This study, for example, found that theanine reduced sleep latency and significantly improved the quality of sleep without making participants feel sedated or intoxicated in any way. The key words in this study are “L-theanine is not a sedative but promotes good quality of sleep through anxiolysis”.
Several studies have returned very similar results, and all have used doses in the range of 200-400mg. Sleep Sense provides us with a dose of 400mg.
Since theanine is not thought to produce side effects, this is perfect!
We also get a very good dose of magnesium from Sleep Sense.
The 50% of your RDI dose may appear small to some, but if you are using Sleep Sense as an acute treatment for poor sleeping patterns, a big influx of magnesium like this is perhaps better than drip feeding in 100% or more of your RDI throughout the day.
Magnesium is a highly under-utilized natural sleeping aid. It is involved in many different biological functions, and it is thought to have several different, direct effects on sleep. So important is magnesium for sleep quality that a magnesium deficiency is known to directly cause sleep disruption.
This study, while inconclusive overall, determined that there was a clear relationship between magnesium intake and sleep quality.
Another study, published in 2012, found that “Supplementation of magnesium appears to improve subjective measures of insomnia such as ISI score, sleep efficiency, sleep time and sleep onset latency, early morning awakening, and likewise, insomnia”.
We can’t really argue with such substantive findings!
- Contains dead weight
- Missing key ingredients
Despite the very good servings of superb ingredients, as laid out above, we aren’t overly keen on this sleeping supplement.
A major issue with SennaBliss Sleep Sense is that it provides several substances that DO NOT actually contribute to better sleeping patterns.
For example, each serving provides a large serving of GABA.
Many people believe that supplementation with GABA will help with anxiety and relaxation. They believe this because GABA is a neurotransmitter responsible for those feelings. Exciting your GABA receptors will lower your inhibitions, make you less worried about things, and relax the body.
The problem is that supplementing with GABA is pointless.
It doesn’t seem to be taken up and utilized by the body. When it is absorbed, it struggles to cross the blood brain barrier.
GABA may look good on the label, but in practice, it’s pointless. You’re paying for an ingredient that provides no added benefit here. You’re putting more substances into your body and getting nothing else out of it.
That’s a serious problem for us.
We could repeat the same thing again with some other ingredients in Sleep Sense. We don’t think there’s much point in supplementing with 5-HTP for largely the same reasons as GABA – it isn’t digested well, and it doesn’t convert very efficiently to serotonin.
A much more reliable and efficient way of boosting serotonin production is through Tryptophan supplementation.
Tryptophan is one of the ‘building blocks’ of serotonin. It is readily absorbed in the digestive tract and it is easily converted into serotonin, which helps reduce anxiety, elevates your mood, and makes you ready for a nice, long sleep.
Tryptophan is a notable absence from this formula. It is cheap (in its basic form), readily available, and an easy win.
Final Verdict – SennaBliss Sleep Sense – Should You Use It?
All things considered, we think SennaBliss Sleep Sense is a fairly good natural sleep supplement.
It is going to work well for many users. The formula contains some excellent ingredients and the doses are more than we need.
We think this stack is capable of delivering on its promises. It should help you fall asleep faster and keep you in the deep, truly restful stages of sleep for longer. This will indeed help anyone get over jet lag much quicker than normal.
We don’t think it makes itself redundant after a certain amount of time. The benefits will remain for a while, but assuming everything about your life stays the same, once you stop using Sleep Sense it is a matter of time before your sleeping patterns deteriorate again.
We think this claim is more of a sales pitch than a truth claim.
But overall, not a bad sleeping supplement at all. Well worth a try. But if you are serious about getting maximum value for money, perhaps look at some of our current top rated products.
