GENIUS SLEEP AID Review Summary
This isn’t a bad natural sleep aid. It contains a couple of good ingredients which should help you fall asleep without too much difficulty and to remain in a state of deep, restful, restorative sleep for longer. It should be particularly useful if you drink a lot of caffeine – that nice (but relatively low) serving of theanine will help suppress the worst side effects of caffeine (although you shouldn’t really be drinking coffee 3 hours before bedtime anyway).
However, there are some serious flaws here. For one thing, the melatonin serving is far too low. Just 0.5mg is half the dose you will find in most other sleep aids. Ideally, we’d like to see 4 times this much. There’s no tryptophan, and no magnesium. The theanine content should be doubled too for optimal results. All things considered, better value can be found elsewhere.

Detailed GENIUS SLEEP AID Review
The Genius Brand needs no introduction here. If you’ve spent any time on sports, fitness or health websites in the last 3 years, you will have come across at least one of this brand’s products before. They are absolutely everywhere.
The Genius range seems to expand every year. At the time of writing, their official website lists about 9 distinct categories of supplements, from nootropics and general health stacks to post-workout shakes and even a beauty range.
So what about GENIUS SLEEP AID?
What is it supposed to do exactly?
If we look at the official Genius Brand website, we see straight away that these guys claim to pay strict attention to what the latest scientific evidence says. They make repeated statements about how they only use scientifically-proven, high-quality ingredients. Sounds good to us!
The GENIUS SLEEP AID bottle, gives us a quick breakdown of what users can expect from this stack:
- Enhanced sleep quality
- Help fighting adrenal fatigue
- Stress and anxiety reduction
These are three key benefits for any sleep aid to deliver. It is often not enough to focus on actual sleep – most people need more help fighting stress and anxiety than with optimizing hormone or neurotransmitter production.
The merchant page gives us an overview of what the main ingredients in GENIUS SLEEP AID are supposed to do, and then a rundown of the main benefits that come with getting sufficient high quality sleep each night:
This all sounds great to us.
These guys clearly understand that getting enough solid, deep sleep has benefits beyond making you feel less drowsy the next day.
Enhancing your sleeping patterns will have carry-over benefits into pretty much every other aspect of your life.
So if GENIUS SLEEP AID can actually deliver on its promises, we will have a powerful little supplement on our hands.
All we need to do is find out if its claims are true or largely just marketing hype!
Does this sleep supplement really work?
How safe is it? Are there any serious side effect risks?

GENIUS SLEEP AID Formula
Let’s take a closer look at the GENIUS SLEEP AID formula and see what we’re really dealing with here:
Main Strengths
- Should help reduce caffeine side effects
- Good range of benefits
There are definitely some good things about this sleep supplement.
The main benefits, as we see it, is the nice dose of theanine. Theanine has a number of benefits with regards to sleep, but the main one for us is its relationship to caffeine.
If you consume a lot of caffeine throughout the day, then chances are that your sleep is suffering.
It’s just the way it is.
Most of us are slaves to caffeine to one degree or another – we need it to get out of bed, to get through that 3pm meeting when we skipped lunch, or to have a really good workout.
But few of us realize just how much of an impact caffeine has on our ability to sleep.
Theanine helps ‘take the edge’ off caffeine. When used acutely in conjunction with caffeine, it reduces many of the most noticeable symptoms of caffeine consumption: jitters, anxiety, hypertension, irritability, and so on.
It will also help attenuate the lingering effects of caffeine consumption – hypertension, anxiety, and insomnia.
Theanine doesn’t just help with caffeine side effects however. It produces a good range of benefits related to enhancing sleeping patterns.
For instance, some studies have found that theanine may also improve sleep quality. This trial, published in 2015, found that theanine supplementation was able to significantly improve sleep quality.
Interestingly, the researchers found that it did so without inducing feelings of drowsiness. Instead, it promoted sleep through the reduction of anxiety. The researchers concluded: “Unlike conventional sleep inducers, L-theanine is not a sedative but promotes good quality of sleep through anxiolysis.”
Main Weaknesses
- Doses far too low
- Some ingredients offer few benefits
Despite the strengths listed above, we aren’t particularly impressed with this sleep supplement. Overall, we think the weaknesses completely overpower the strengths.
The main issue we have with GENIUS SLEEP AID is the fact that it leave sits best ingredient severely under-dosed.
The clearest example here is the theanine content.
While theanine can help significantly reduce the symptoms of caffeine over-consumption at this dose, 100mg is not enough to see the other benefits associated with theanine supplementation.
Most studies showing that theanie promotes restful sleep, reduces sleep latency, and reduces anxiety acutely (irrespective of caffeine) have used far more than 100mg.
For instance, this often-cited study showing that theanine brings about vastly improved sleep quality gave participants 400mg per day.
That’s 4 TIMES the dose present in GENIUS SLEEP AID!
You will struggle to find a clinical trial where participants got good results from less than about 200mg of theanine per day.
The 100mg in this sleep stack just doesn’t cut it!
The melatonin dose is also way under par for the industry.
Most other stacks provide 1mg of melatonin or equivalent per serving.
Even low quality, cheap sleep supplements provide more than the 0.5mg you get from GENIUS SLEEP AID. That is seriously surprising given how reputable and quality-conscious this manufacturer appears to be.
We think about 2mg of melatonin coupled with some Tryptophan is a solid basis upon which to construct a sleep-promoting stack.
Again, the dose in GENIUS SLEEP AID is not good enough!
It leaves a potentially effective ingredient largely impotent.

GENIUS SLEEP AID Side Effects
As far as side effects are concerned, we don’t think many of you have anything to worry about from GENIUS SLEEP AID.
The ingredients used here are all natural substances that have been thoroughly studied in laboratory conditions.
The ingredients are all used individually and as constituents of a broader stack by thousands of people around the world.
None of the are thought to pose any serious risk to health.
It is absolutely vital that you consider your own circumstances, do your own research, and always consult a qualified health professional before using these supplements.
Do not attempt to drive or operate any dangerous machinery while using this stack. Even if you feel like it hasn’t worked properly, it may still impair your judgment and make you drowsy quicker than you realize.
If you have a serious problem with sleep, talk to a doctor or health specialist.

Final Verdict – GENIUS SLEEP AID – Should You Buy It?
After doing a full GENIUS SLEEP AID review, we were seriously disappointed with this natural sleeping supplement.
It contains some good ingredients, and they have the potential to significantly enhance sleep in numerous different but complimentary ways.
The range of benefits that these ingredients can potentially cover is substantial.
But we said POTENTIALLY for good reason.
The doses used by GENIUS SLEEP AID are far too low in the most important areas.
All studies showing serious sleep-enhancing benefits from theanine have used 2 x the amount you get from GENIUS SLEEP AID as a minimum. Many use 4 x the 100mg dose you get from this sleep supplement.
The melatonin dose is too low, especially when you realize there’s no tryptophan either.
Much better value can be found elsewhere.

I’ve been using Genius for 4 weeks. I am taking 3 to 4 pills. Two did nothing. It does work at this dosage. But, I am experiencing dizziness in the morning and some foggy brain. Is this normal?
Review Team says
Hi Rebecca, thanks for sharing. No we don’t think you should be experiencing any side effects whatsoever while using this product. The recommended serving size is 2 capsules. We don’t think you should be taking any more than that! We think you should stop taking 3+ capsules per day and go see your doctor about the side effects immediately. Also, get in touch with Genius and ask their opinion; we’re sure they’ll give you some good advice. After all, we have nothing to do with this product!
If a product isn’t working for you at the recommended dose the answer isn’t to just keep upping the dose until it does work. Perhaps try something else.

I have been taking Genius sleep for about two weeks but it only works if I take two with two Benadryl. I wake up every two hours to roll over or go to the bathroom, I am able to go back to sleep, but I am ecstatic that I am sleeping!
