This is a top quality cognitive enhancer. If you are looking for a short term increase in focus, concentration, and mental clarity, De Novo Utopia is a great option. It contains a huge dose of Citicoline, a very sensible dose of Huperzine A, and a very large dose of caffeine. Side effects will be a concern for some users, but for infrequent use it should be manageable.
However, this nootropic is not suitable for long-term, regular use. Huperzine A must be cycled. Repeated, regular use will cause side effects. Such a large dose of Citicoline is also unsuitable for regular, daily use. Most seriously of all, 200mg of caffeine anhydrous is totally unsuitable for everyday consumption. That much caffeine is highly addictive and will inevitably cause chronic side effects. Mucuna Puriens doesn’t have any effect on cognition either.
All in all, this is a high quality short-term focus enhancer, although it could be better.
Where To Buy De Novo Utopia
De Novo Nutrition run an independent online store. They also sell through third-parties. They are currently not sold in the UK, but we believe this is due to change soon.
Full De Novo Utopia Review
De Novo Nutrition are an incredibly exciting new supplement company to come onto the scene. They are gaining plenty of fans in the US, and they are currently gearing up for a big UK launch. They currently offer a whey protein powder, an appetite suppressant, a pre-workout, a gamer-specific nootropic, and of course, a focus enhancer.
So what is this supplement supposed to do?
Who is it designed for?
The bottle states that this product is a “focus and concentration enhancer”.
The De Novo website describes this product in the following way: “UTOPIA is a blend of smart nootropic ingredients to help your productivity, training, and focus. Rise above in the gym, at your desk, or with your team.”
Clearly, this is a short-term nootropic.
It is designed for anybody in need of a quick increase in focus, mental clarity, and mental energy. It is supposed to be suitable for any situation in which you might need a sharp mental boost – in the gym, at the office, or in the library.
In short, Utopia claims to deliver the following key benefits:
- Sharp focus
- Increased mental energy
- No jitters or energy crashes
- Generally improved cognition
This is a solid list of benefits for a nootropic like Utopia.
We typically prefer brain supplements which take a comprehensive, long-term approach to cognitive enhancement. We tend to not like short-term focus boosters. But these kinds of supplements are absolutely perfect for many people. If you’re a software engineer, student, or creative professional, then a one-off concentration booster can be extremely useful.
But does it really work?
Can De Novo Utopia do all of these things?
Will it cause side effects? Is it safe over the long-term?
How does it compare to other stacks designed for the same purpose?
Find our by reading our full De Novo Nutrition Utopia review below. We start with an in-depth examination of the formula, looking to see if the ingredients and serving sizes are supported by the latest scientific literature. We discuss the side effect risks, as well as the value for money. In the end, we’ll tell you what we think of this nootropic as a whole. If you have any questions, please post them in the comments section at the end.
Utopia Formula Analysis
Let’s take a look at the Utopia ingredients list:
For a short-term focus enhancer, this is a top quality formula.
There’s no filler.
No dead weight.
No proprietary blends.
Just high quality, proven, natural cognitive enhancers.
We think De Novo Utopia is more than capable of delivering a rapid increase in focus, mental energy, and concentration.
However, it could definitely be better.
It contains one ingredient that has no nootropic effects. It is not even thought to improve mental performance, let alone having real scientific proof.
It is not a daily nootropic stack – it is completely unsuitable for long-term, daily consumption.
It does pose some side effect risks.
But if you’re looking for a short term fix for brain fog and dwindling concentration, De Novo Utopia looks like it can help.
What We Like
- Huge serving of Citicoline
- Sensible serving of Huperzine A
- No dead weight of ‘filler’ ingredients
There is a lot about this formula that we like. It is actually one of the best focus and energy supplements we’ve reviewed on this site.
The thing that sets it most apart from the competition is the enormous serving of Cognizin®.
Cognizin is a branded form of Citicoline.
Citicoline, or CDP-Choline as it is often called, is a compound which donates choline to the brain. This choline is used to create acetylcholine, which is a key neurotransmitter involved in multiple cognitive processes, including information processing, short-term memory formation, and focus retention.
We call compounds which donate choline to the brain “cholinergics”.
Supplementing with choline is known to rapidly increase attention span, improve your ability to learn, and help you keep your mind clear of distractions.
Analogues like CDP-Choline more readily cross the blood brain barrier than simple choline. That is why we choose to supplement with them and not with straight choline – we just don’t want to consume the amount of choline you’d need to get the same effect as Citicoline.
Many of the best natural nootropics on the market today use Cognizin as their cholinergic of choice. They typically provide anywhere from 150mg to 300mg.
The 500mg we get from De Novo Utopia is absolutely enormous by anyone’s standards. It will bring about a significant increase in your ability to stay concentrated on a single task in as little as a couple of hours. It will improve the quality of your information processing, speed up your memory recall, and more.
What We Don’t Like
- Huperzine A requires cycling
- Mucuna Puriens not a nootropic!
There are really only two faults with this stack, and one of these isn’t really a fault if you aren’t looking for a full spectrum, daily nootropic stack.
The main issue is the fact that Mucuna Puriens is not a nootropic substance.
This stuff isn’t even thought to have brain enhancing properties – you won’t find any “health bloggers” waxing lyrical about Mucuna Puriens’ ability to improve learning capacity or mental energy levels.
When you don’t even have the ‘alternative medicine’ gang jumping behind something, you know it’s totally bogus!
There isn’t a single robust, independent clinical trial showing Mucuna Puriens as having any effect on cognitive function at all.
It is sometimes said to promote sex hormone production in men. We’re hardly experts in that area but the evidence strikes us as thin. In any case, this doesn’t concern us.
What concerns us is cognitive enhancement, and Mucuna Puriens looks unlikely to help us in that regards. The fact we get 150mg of this useless ingredient in every serving if a major disappointment. De Novo Utopia would be much better off without it.
Another major problem with Utopia, in our opinion at least, is the fact that it cannot be used as a daily nootropic stack.
There are several reasons for this, which we will explore in the ‘side effects’ section.
But for now, we’ll just talk about the most obvious one: the presence of Huperzine A.
Huperzine A blocks the formation of acetylcholinesterase. This is the enzyme in the brain responsible for breaking down acetylcholine. As we explained above, more acetylcholine is a good thing. But too much of it causes problems.
In shutting off the brain’s ability to regulate acetylcholine levels, Huperzine A poses a serious issue. If you don’t take regular breaks – thereby allowing acetylcholine levels to return to normal – acetylcholine build ups become excessive and side effects are inevitable.
You need to take regular 7 days breaks from Huperzine A every 3-4 weeks. This means that De Novo Utopia is not a good choice for a daily nootropic supplement. We think daily, long-term supplementation is how you get the best results from nootropics.
How Much Does De Novo Utopia Cost?
In terms of value for money, Utopia does not look too bad at all.
It costs $34.99 per 30 servings.
That comes to just over $1.16 per dose.
For a reliable, potent, high quality natural nootropic, that isn’t bad at all.
You also won’t be using De Novo Utopia every single day. That means your $34.99 investment will stretch a lot further than it would when using many other nootropic stacks.
But at the end of the day, whether something represents good value for you depends entirely on how much you’re willing to spend to get what you want!
It’s important to remember that you get what you pay for. That is true in every industry, and it is true for nootropics.
You might be able to find a brain supplement claiming to do all of the same things as De Novo Utopia for just $10. But these aren’t protein supplements – one nootropic is not very much like every other. The chances another company can deliver the same product for a third of the price is very slim indeed!
Utopia Side Effects – Is It Safe?
De Novo Nutrition are a legitimate outfit. They clearly intend to grow their user base, and they obviously plan to be around for some time. As such, they are not going to start producing a supplement that is extremely unsafe.
Lots of people use their products on a regular basis, and very few people seem to experience serious side effects.
However, we think Utopia does come with some relatively severe side effect risks.
While not every user will experience side effects, we think you are more likely to experience adverse effects from Utopia than when using other stacks designed for the same purpose.
The main risk is the large Caffeine Anhydrous dose.
De Novo have included 200mg of Caffeine Anhydrous per serving. That is roughly the equivalent of 2 and a half shots of espresso.
Many of our readers will be coffee addicts, but even they have to admit that a double shot of espresso sometimes comes with jitters, dizziness, and heart palpitations.
Not to mention the fact that this is when said caffeine is dissolved in half a liter of water. Taking a purified form of caffeine in a capsule is a different matter!
For people with a lower tolerance, 200mg of caffeine will cause more serious side effects, including (but not limited to):
- Shortness of breath
It is absolutely vital that you consider your existing coffee consumption carefully before proceeding.
Caffeine is a powerful stimulant, and caffeine anhydrous is a more potent, refined form (it has had all water molecules removed making it more potent than regular caffeine on a gram for gram basis).
Acute caffeine overdoses can be fatal!
You must bare the following facts in mind when reading our independent supplement reviews: You MUST do your own research before choosing a natural nootropic. Jut because a supplement is 100% natural doesn’t mean it is even remotely safe. To keep yourself safe, you should talk to your regular family physician and get their advice before you start using any of these supplements.

De Novo Utopia Review Conclusion – Should You Buy It?
If you’re looking for a supplement to give you a swift, sharp, sizable increase in focus, information processing and mental energy levels, then Utopia might be just what you need.
It provides good value for money, and the ingredients are extremely effective (apart from Mucuna Puriens).
It is likely to cause side effects in some users. But for those of you using it infrequently, who have a high caffeine tolerance, and who aren’t consuming too much caffeine throughout the day anyway, side effects will likely be mild.
However, if you want to bring about some lasting improvements in cognitive function – and we mean the quality of your cognitive function – you will have to look elsewhere.
De Novo Utopia makes no lasting changes.
It leaves memory function largely alone.
It doesn’t promote brain health.
It doesn’t safeguard long-term brain function.
To put it bluntly, there’s a lot this brain supplement can’t do.
You basically need to evaluate what it is you’re looking for. If it’s safety, long-term benefits, and full spectrum mental enhancement, other stacks are a better choice. If it’s a quick focus and energy kick, this is probably a great little stack to try out.
